Cork, Ireland

May 2019

The trip to Cork was not as exciting as I was hoping, especially because my ancestors are from there (apparently my dad might have been mistaken and they may not have actually come from Cork) so I had a lot of high hopes about finding an apartment and settling down, but no one actually got in touch with us to arrange a viewing. Not to mention the fact that I was sicker now, with actual cold like symptoms and a discouraged heart. Before we left Dublin, we made sure to book a B&B in Cork so we had a place to go with ALL of our luggage (seven bags), but while we were on the bus down, the lady emailed us asking if we had a car and told us it would be too far for us to go without a car. So we cancelled that (at no charge thankfully) and looked on trusty Air BNB for something cheap that was available, which really revved up the stress hormones. However, once we actually arrived in Cork and took a cab (with the most difficult man to understand), we arrived at a beautiful and PRIVATE place that was set up in someones backyard. It was perfect for what we needed for the few nights we were there, especially since I was sick and didn’t want other people to hear me blowing my nose throughout the night or coughing constantly. The best part about this place was that a 5-10 minute walk away from it was a beautiful pond with tons of different birds around it (especially swans) and we spent some time just sitting there and enjoying the view and the weather.

As I mentioned before, it is unfortunate that we did not have more of an opportunity to explore Cork, but we were too driven and desperate to find an apartment at this point that we didn’t have time to enjoy the city. While we were there, we took a few buses out to a nearby county/city called Waterford in search of a place, but more on that later.

So our time in Cork was short and sweet, but we promised that we would be back and I’m sure that we will.
